Summary

“For someone damned to be forgettable, Addie LaRue is a most delightfully unforgettable character, and her story is the most joyous evocation of unlikely immortality。” ―Neil Gaiman

A Sunday Times-bestselling, award-nominated genre-defying tour-de-force of Faustian bargains, for fans of The Time Traveler’s Wife and Life After Life, and The Sudden Appearance of Hope。

When Addie La Rue makes a pact with the devil, she is convinced she’s found a loophole―immortality in exchange for her soul。 But the devil takes away her place in the world, cursing her to be forgotten by everyone。

Addie flees her tiny home town in 18th-Century France, beginning a journey that takes her across the world, learning to live a life where no one remembers her and everything she owns is lost and broken。 Existing only as a muse for artists throughout history, she learns to fall in love anew every single day。

Her only companion on this journey is her dark devil with hypnotic green eyes, who visits her each year on the anniversary of their deal。 Alone in the world, Addie has no choice but to confront him, to understand him, maybe to beat him。

Until one day, in a second hand bookshop in Manhattan, Addie meets someone who remembers her。 Suddenly thrust back into a real, normal life, Addie realises she can’t escape her fate forever。

i have no words… i am speechless。 this book became my absolute favorite book。 it very different from the books i normally read but in a good way。 i loved the plot and it really hooked me in。 it has such a good message, and the ending was too good that i literally want a sequel。 i will say, the beginning is a slow start。 so just power through it, it gets better once she meets someone。 highly recommend it to everyone

Jesus Christ this was so boring。 I heavily skimmed the last 40%。 A lot of the book felt unnecessary, just ways to add up the page count。 I love the idea of this book, but it just didn’t deliver。

Oof。 This was heartbreaking and beautiful in all of the right ways。 Will I emotionally recover? Probably not。 I don't have anything more meaningful to say so。。。 just do yourself a favor and read this one。 Oof。 This was heartbreaking and beautiful in all of the right ways。 Will I emotionally recover? This book。。。oh Lords, loved it and hated it tbh。 All I can say is that I am in love with Luc BIG TIME。 Not going to lie, some parts of the story absolutely bored me (not many, and that's just me (: ), but I've stayed up nights to read it, it is just enchanting! I ADORED this book! It did not feel too long to me at all。 I was very invested throughout the entire story and honestly whizzed through the first half of the book (which is what most people seemed to have not enjoyed)。 In my opinion that first half was essential to truly build the story up to everything that happens later on。 However, if you were/are looking for something fast paced, then I can see where the disappointment would come in, and I definitely wouldn't recommend this book。 It's a very I ADORED this book! 。。。more

Eu estava com ótimas expectativas (as primeiras páginas são ótimas) e só me decepcionei。Uma pena o desperdício de uma ideia tão boa。Achei raso, relacionamentos não convincentes, falta de justificativas。。

Boring, it could have been a very nice story, but for how it was written it is just a boring cliché of every young adult book。

Read for the Frisco Undead & Unread book clubActual rating 3。5 I didn’t love it, I didn’t hate it。 It was good just slow。 It makes you think。 Personally I don’t like think-y books I just wanna be entertained。 Basic plot: a girl makes a deal with the devil for “freedom” and he makes so she is never beholden to anyone and with that no one can remember her, she can make no lasting impressions 。 Basically everyone in the world is Lucy from 50 first dates and forgets her the moment after she leaves t Read for the Frisco Undead & Unread book clubActual rating 3。5 I didn’t love it, I didn’t hate it。 It was good just slow。 It makes you think。 Personally I don’t like think-y books I just wanna be entertained。 Basic plot: a girl makes a deal with the devil for “freedom” and he makes so she is never beholden to anyone and with that no one can remember her, she can make no lasting impressions 。 Basically everyone in the world is Lucy from 50 first dates and forgets her the moment after she leaves their sight。 I can’t imagine a life like that。 It had gorgeous prose and was told well。 The writing reminded me a lot of the Night Circus。 I assume if you like that one you’d like this。 A lot of deep questions here:What is love? What is the value of a life? How would you define freedom? Can a life have meaning without leaving a mark?It was pretty but it was slow and I’m so torn on what I think about the ending。 I kinda liked it but gosh it leaves things so up in the air。 。。。more

Beautiful story building。 Lovable characters。 However, very long with too many flashbacks to 1700s for my preference。 Incredibly well written with memorable one-liners。 Women want to be seen and men want to be adored。

4。5 stars rounded up。 I started this book on Jan 3, 2022, and put it down about 200 pages in for reasons I can’t remember。 I think at the time I felt it slow? Or perhaps it just didn’t suit my mood at the time。 But when I picked it back up again two days ago I eagerly gulped down the remaining half of the book, loving every bit of it。 Coincidentally finishing it exactly one year later。 “Were the instants of joy worth the stretches of sorrow? Were the moments of beauty worth the years of pain? And 4。5 stars rounded up。 I started this book on Jan 3, 2022, and put it down about 200 pages in for reasons I can’t remember。 I think at the time I felt it slow? Amazing!I could not put this book down。 I’ve read a lot of books but this is going to sit on a shelf of favorites。 It will be one of those books that’s like an old friend that I will miss and revisit from time to time。 I can often predict how things will go while reading a book, the author somehow providing subtle clues to lead me where I think the story will go。 That was not the case with this one。 The story was so artfully written and I had no idea where the twists and turns were leading。 Righ Amazing!I could not put this book down。 I’ve read a lot of books but this is going to sit on a shelf of favorites。 It will be one of those books that’s like an old friend that I will miss and revisit from time to time。 I can often predict how things will go while reading a book, the author somehow providing subtle clues to lead me where I think the story will go。 That was not the case with this one。 The story was so artfully written and I had no idea where the twists and turns were leading。 Right up until the very end I was guessing and ultimately surprised by the way the story left off。 I loved this book! 。。。more

It's a good book and it reads quite easily but unfortunately somewhere between part 3 and 5 it lost me。 Time periods that could've been really interesting were mostly skipped even though there were hints towards Addie doing some significant things during them。 It became quite long winded because of that。 The final 50 pages did make up for a lot of it but due to the long windedness and the ending of this whole story i can't give more than a three star review。 It's a good read but i don't get exci It's a good book and it reads quite easily but unfortunately somewhere between part 3 and 5 it lost me。 Time periods that could've been really interesting were mostly skipped even though there were hints towards Addie doing some significant things during them。 It became quite long winded because of that。 The final 50 pages did make up for a lot of it but due to the long windedness and the ending of this whole story i can't give more than a three star review。 It's a good read but i don't get excited over it and i definitely won't take it out for a second go。 。。。more

I had a lot of feelings while reading this book。 The overwhelming sense of loneliness Addie endures was so well conveyed I had to take multiple reading breaks to process it。 I also had to take breaks because I was a bit bored。 It didn't capture my attention as much as i had thought it would。 The final 7% of this book was my favorite out of the entire story; wondering what will happen and appreciating how it ends (for us readers)。A favorite, non-spoiler quote: "Life can feel very long sometimes, I had a lot of feelings while reading this book。 The overwhelming sense of loneliness Addie endures was so well conveyed I had to take multiple reading breaks to process it。 I also had to take breaks because I was a bit bored。 It didn't capture my attention as much as i had thought it would。 The final 7% of this book was my favorite out of the entire story; wondering what will happen and appreciating how it ends (for us readers)。A favorite, non-spoiler quote: "Life can feel very long sometimes, but in the end, it goes fast" 。。。more

4。5/5Wow I really really loved this story。 It made my heart feel so many things and I just fell in love with the characters。 It’s another book where I didn’t know if the genre was for me but wow I’ve been proven wrong。

i’m not exactly sure what to say for this book。 it was really good, and i enjoyed reading it, thought towards the end it did get pretty slow。 i think that’s why it took me so long to finish。 but overall it was a very good and well written book
